About the Federal Office for Gender Equality (FOGE)

The mandate of the FOGE is defined in the Federal Act on Gender Equality (Gender Equality Act, GEA): the FOGE promotes gender equality in all areas of life and is committed to eliminating discrimination.

The work of the FOGE is described in the GEA as follows: «The Federal Office for Gender Equality promotes the equality of women and men in all areas of life and is committed to eliminating any form of direct or indirect discrimination.» (Art. 16 Gender Equality Act).

Promotion of projects with financial aid

The Federal Office for Gender Equality (FOGE) offers financial aid to promote innovative projects in the areas of gender equality in the workplace, the prevention of violence against women and the prevention of domestic violence.

The FOGE in figures

In 2025, the FOGE:

  • coordinated 333 measures from the action plan of the Gender Equality Strategy 2030;
  • conducted 209 consultations on equal pay analyses using Logib;
  • carried out 30 verifications of equal pay compliance for enterprises that were awarded public contracts;
  • prepared 170 statements within the framework of consultation procedures for federal offices;
  • responded to 12 parliamentary interventions;
  • processed 68 new applications for financial aid to promote equality in the workplace and to prevent and combat violence;
  • provided financial aid to around 125 ongoing projects;
  • paid out a total of around CHF 7 million in financial aid;
  • coordinated and monitored 44 measures of the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Istanbul Convention aimed at preventing and combating violence against women;
  • launched a national prevention campaign against domestic, sexual and gender-based violence;
  • convened an extraordinary meeting of the committee responsible for the implementation of the Istanbul Conventionon on femicides, at which three urgent measures were decided upon;
  • actively participated in 17 international events on gender equality-related topics;
  • developed a national action plan to combat hate crimes against LGBTIQ persons;
  • co-organized a national meeting with cantonal and municipal officials responsible for LGBTIQ issues.
