Study on discrimination and sexualised violence in the Swiss Armed Forces

As part of the Gender Equality Strategy 2030, the Swiss Armed Forces recently carried out a study on discrimination and sexualised violence based on gender and/or sexual orientation. The results of the study demonstrate the need to improve security for service members and to encourage a culture shift. Armed Forces leadership have adopted targeted measures to accelerate the required change.

Gian Beeli, co-head of the Federal Office for Gender Equality (FOGE), took part in the press conference presenting the study and the new measures adopted by the Armed Forces. Combating gender-based violence and discrimination is one of the key priorities of the Federal Council's Gender Equality Strategy 2030. The study on discrimination and sexualised violence in the Armed Forces is one of 285 measures included in the action plan.

The study marks an important step in creating a secure and respectful environment within the Armed Forces. New measures will be taken in order to better protect service members from discrimination and sexualised violence. They are specifically aimed at preventing inappropriate behaviour, raising awareness and improving training for service members, protecting victims’ rights and simplifying complaint procedures.
