Rights of LGBTI persons: Switzerland joins a ministerial declaration

On the occasion of the 13th European IDAHOT+ Forum, Switzerland is signing a joint ministerial declaration in support of the human rights, non-discrimination and equality of LGBTI persons.

Through this declaration, the states reaffirm their commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of LGBTI persons. They recall that equality and non-discrimination lie at the heart of human rights and democracies, principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and the European Convention on Human Rights.

The declaration is structured around five areas: combating violence and hate speech, education and the labour market, health, families, and civic space.

The 2026 European IDAHOT+ Forum takes place in the context of the International Day Against Homophobia, Lesbophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and Interphobia (IDAHOT), marked every year on 17 May. It brings together state representatives, civil society and international organisations around a common objective: strengthening cooperation in favour of equal rights and equal opportunities for LGBTI persons at national, European and international levels.

The 2026 edition took place in Copenhagen under the theme “Pushing for Progress”. Switzerland was represented by the Federal Office for Gender Equality (FOGE) and the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP).
